Setting up your multifactor authentication

A guide on how to set up your multifactor authentication method

What you will need to fulfill the guide:

  1. Your smartphone*
  2. Internet connection
  3. Your computer

* If you do not have a smartphone, complete steps 0-4 and 14-15



Please note

Sign in using your entire RUC email address and password

If you cannot remember your password for your RUC account, change it here

When signing in to any RUC system, make sure it says https://login.microsoftonline.com/  in the beginning of the address field


Step 1

Instead of the Single-Sign-On screen you know, you will be met with Microsoft’s sign in page

Write your entire RUC email address

Click Next  


Step 2

Write your password and click Sign in


Step 3

This step will only appear the first time you sign in with multifactor authentication

Now you need to set up your multifactor authentication method

Click Next  


Step 4

On your phone:

Install the app Microsoft Authenticator on your smartphone* by searching for “Microsoft Authenticator” in your app store or follow one of these links:

Important: Do not set up the app yet. You will be guided through the process

On your computer:

Click Next 

* If you do not have a smartphone, click “I want to set up a different method” in the bottom left corner and go to Step 14 in this guide


Step 5

On your computer:

Click Next


Step 6

On your phone:

Open the app Microsoft Authenticator and click on Scan a QR code 


Step 7

On your phone:

Use the app Microsoft Authenticator to scan the QR code on your computer screen​​​​​​​

Allow notifications in the app

 


Step 8

On your computer:

Click Next


Step 9

On your computer:

Wait for the app to approve the notification

Note the number on the sign-in window


Step 10

On your phone:

Approve the sign-in by typing the same number as the one on your sign-in window

Click Yes

You have 60 seconds to approve


Step 11

On your computer:

When the notification has been approved, click Next


Step 12

On your computer:

You have now successfully set up your Microsoft Authenticator app for multifactor authentication, and will in the future need to use the app when signing in

Click Done

Your RUC account will now appear in your Microsoft Authenticator app. If you add other accounts, e.g., your private email account, they will also appear here


Step 13

On your computer:

Click Yes, if you would like to stay signed in

This means, that you will not be asked to sign in as often ​​​​

We recommend clicking No if you are not using a private device; and clicking Yes if you are using a private device 


Step 14

If you no not have a smartphone

This step is only for setting up an authentication method without a smartphone

Choose Phone in the drop-down menu and click Confirm


Step 15

If you no not have a smartphone

Enter your phone number and click Next

In the future, when signing in you will receive a one-time code on the number you provided as your multifactor authentication method ​​​​​​​
